Race Team Weekly Update from Joe Skutnik

John Donovan, myself, Marc Latimer, Sherry and PJ met Tuesday night. John and I stressed to PJ that we feel the number one priority is to get the yellow chair running by this weekend.  We felt that he should hold off on making snow on Grand until he gets the chair load tested (the final piece for inspection).  This also will give the pond additional time to fill for the anticipated 36 hour snowmaking run on Grand.

Snowmaking: Mother Nature will be putting us in the deep freeze again this coming week.  Snowmaking will resume Monday and continue through Wednesday on Grand.

Yellow Chair: The bells and whistles are being worked on. The projected load test day is still Thursday January 17. Please be ready to help with the load test if we get the call.

Training: Berkshire East has requested that we not practice at their mountain this holiday weekend. They will be having their racers train on a narrow slope this weekend because they anticipate a big weekend.  They felt that adding the Bousquet kids to that slope this weekend would make it to crowded. All race program athletes will train at Bousquet this weekend.

U12/U14 GS:  We anticipate running our race on January 27.  If everything goes as planned the hill should be ready to go by Thursday January 24.  We need to start gathering volunteers for that race.  Please contact Michelle with your request for a volunteer position.  This race will have at least 260 participants so we are going to need all hands on deck. We will be putting up fencing Saturday January 26 at noon.

Race Team Weekly Update

Here is this week’s Bousquet Ski Club Update.

Snowmaking: Snowmaking will resume Thursday night and continue through Saturday morning. The plan is to blow snow on Easy Rider, Harris and spot blow on thin areas that snowmaking has already occurred on.  Saturday all equipment is going to be moved to Grand.  Snowmaking on Grand will begin Sunday and run until there is no more water.

Yellow Chair: The main power to the chair has been hooked up.  Today the chair is being calibrated for the different speeds that the new motor can produce.  After the calibration is done the load test needs to be done. The projected load test day is Thursday January 17.  Please be ready to help with the load test if we get the call.

Training: Non Tri-state racers in the Bousquet race program, this includes Dev team and All-Mountain team, will begin training at Bousquet this weekend.  The Tri-state racers will again train at Berkshire East this weekend.  The U12/U14 racers will train on Saturday in anticipation of their race at Butternut on Sunday.  The U16’s will train on Sunday at Berkshire East.

We would like to once again extend our thanks (from the area and the club) and appreciation to our parents & coaches for their patience and support during this challenging start to the season.

We are also grateful for the support from the Berkshire East and Catamount leadership and to want extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to them for supporting us and our racers during this period.

Message from Sherry

We have had several calls and messages regarding our opening date and finalization of the Christmas holiday schedule for hours of operation and for the race team practice. We are working diligently in our mission to open for the 2018-19 season as soon as possible.

We had intended to be well underway in our snowmaking efforts but have had several unforeseen issues occur to snowmaking and operations. Our mountain ops team had been working around the clock towards mending the issues.

In the meantime, our generous neighboring mountains are offering our season passholders some great discounts.   Jiminy Peak is offering 50% lift tickets day or night now through January 1st.  Catamount and Berkshire East will offer passholders a $30 day lift ticket during Christmas vacation week and Ski Butternut is offering our pass holders 50% lift tickets including Christmas vacation week.

Catamount and Berkshire East will be hosting our race team practice as an interim venue for race practice until our mountain is open for race training.

Although we are frustrated with the unfolding of these unfortunate events we remain positive, committed and optimistic in our efforts. We are on the cusp of opening and looking forward to serving our passholders and community during our 86th ski season.
